Too Clever is the tier for the go-to "obscure" answer that isn't actually obscure. Players reach for it to avoid the obvious answer, but so many of them do it that it ends up common. It is worth 15 points, just above Plankton (10) and well below Schooler (30).
Why it happens
For most prompts there is a famous answer and a "famous second answer", the one people pick to look smart. Because it is the standard way to dodge the obvious, it gets typed a lot. The game marks it so it doesn't score like a real deep cut.
How to avoid it
- When an answer feels clever and came to you instantly, treat it as the second obvious answer.
- Change category instead of going one step further along the same line. Our hint method covers this.
- A plain, real answer from a narrower group usually beats a "clever" famous one.

| Schooler | 30 | A correct, reasonably common answer. |
| Rare | 60 | An answer that few players give. |
| Deep Cut | 85 | Very uncommon; most of the field never gets here. |
| One in a Krillion | 100 | The single highlighted answer for the prompt. |
